Called to Order: 5:45 PM

In Attendance: 20 members and non-members (see attached); quorum met.

Call to Order

Motion to approve Oct 2016 meeting minutes (RG motion; seconded).  Vote: Passed.

Fundraising Report

Conclusion of Chinook Book Sales – we will net about $500.  Cookie Dough sales run from 11/8-11/30.  Food for Funds @ Moda Center – many events in December to volunteer.  3-4 volunteers per event ideal.

President’s Report

Green King

Diego Gioseffi and Stephanie Sanchez of Green King presenting.  King Neighborhood Association has grant funds set aside for outdoor bulletin board – will collaborate with PTA to build.  KNA is also asking for assistance in fundraising for King Park redesign, both ongoing (sharing of fundraising resources) and immediate need for grantwriting help (Dec. 15th deadline for East Multnomah Water Conservation grant).  

Principal’s Report

Principal Jill Sage reported on 11/15 fire incident at school; getting back on schedule after the election.  Also:

  • December 5th – MIP Parent Meeting
  • December 7th – Literacy Night
  • January 10th – 3rd Grade MIP Restorative Justice Circle
  • Dates TBD for PTA/Principal Coffee Chat (1st week of December) and Earthquake Preparedness presentation by MercyCorps.

Treasurer’s Report

See attached.  Operating Budget Amendments – add Chinook Book sales, Food for Funds expenses, other expenses.  Year-end audit complete.  Please ask Matt to see books/audit if you are interested!

Alberta Co-Op Partnership

Joshua Lifton, who is on the board of Alberta Co-Op, called for ideas on how PTA and the Co-Op could collaborate.  Possibilities include cross-marketing in Co-Op/PTA newsletters, discounted memberships to Co-Op for MLK Jr. School families, farm tours for students, Co-Op providing food for engagement events.  Email Joshua for more info.

Committee Reports

Diversity & Inclusion: Preliminary meeting with Andrew Wade and Ms. Hill about bringing Courageous Conversations to MLK Jr. School.  Also discussion re: post-election statement by PTA – suggestion to come up with conventions/agreements regarding any statements or work put out by PTA.
