Our Mission

We strive to honor Dr. MLK Jr. Elementary School’s history as a cornerstone of Portland’s Albina neighborhood; provide resources to meet the needs of the school’s families and staff; and create a safe, supportive space for all community voices to be heard.

Dr. MLK Jr. & PPS's Rightsizing Proposal

PPS is proposing in Scenarios A & B to the Board to relocate the Mandrain Immersion Program from Dr. MLK Jr. Elementary School to Boise-Eliot/Humboldt next year. A final recommendation will come from the Superintendent, Dr. Kimberlee Armstrong on November 17, 2026. The Board will vote on this recommendation Yes/No on December 15, 2026. In this Scenario, Sabin Elementary School would close and would be routed to Dr. MLK Jr. Elementary.

The PTA and MLK family members have voiced their opinions and we are strongly opposed to this proposal. Sabin Elementary PTA are also united with us in opposing this proposal.

Our official ask to PPS Staff, Leadership and the Board is:

Take the MLK Mandarin relocation out of all scenarios & the final recommendation.
Direct PPS staff to model an option that keeps MLK whole
