Motion to approve Sept 2016 meeting minutes (RG motion; seconded).  Vote: Passed.

President’s Report

See attached.  In addition, Pres. Jaime Cale provided updates on DBRAC – interim Superintendent recommendation to delay opening of Tubman MS an additional year (2018-2019).  DBRAC is considering ways to strengthen K-8 feeder MS in the meantime.

Treasurer’s Report

See attached.

Principal’s Report

Principal Jill Sage reported on upcoming events – Spirit Week (Oct 31-Nov 4), STEM Night (Oct 26) – as well as ongoing relationship with PSU/KSMoCA.  She addressed recent reports of rat sightings (no sighting in the past 2 weeks; working with district pest control to eliminate rodent entry points), and radon testing (4 rooms tested last summer; all rooms being remediated and re-tested).

Green King

Stephanie (our Americorp Community Environmental Coordinator) gave us a history of Green King and asked for our help implementing improvements to King School Park.  There is an online survey (click on King Neighborhood Survey at https://greenkingproject.wordpress.com/) or for more information, email her directly at kingfellow@necoalition.org.

SUN Program

Sharde Dennis (our SUN School Coordinator) gave us an overview of SUN programming at MLK Jr. School.  She is working on adding more arts for future semesters (winter and spring terms), to culminate in a spring SUN showcase.

Budget

See attached.  Before presenting our proposed budget for approval, Treasurer Matt Newell-Ching reminded us of the Oregon PTA mission – “To make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.”  Focus on $1500 stipend to SUN – $500/term over 3 terms.  Suggestion to provide reporting on how funds were spent, as well as Advisory Committee creating a survey to determine how SUN can increase the percentage of students it serves (currently about 40% of student population).  Motion to adopt 2016-2017 budget (LC motion; seconded).  Vote: Passed.

Committee Presentations and Recruitment

See attached.  Committee Chairs were given a few minutes to present and recruit members.  President Jaime Cale made special note of committees still needed leaders (SpED, TAG, Neighborhood Parents, Latino Parents, Middle School Parents).
